About the company

Please note: The numbers quoted below are publicly available and sourced from GE Vernova’s website which you can find, here.

Based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, GE Vernova is an innovative American company that’s well-placed to capitalise on the worldwide surge in demand for electricity and cleaner energy [1,2]. They are an energy company that builds the technology required to generate, transfer, and manage electricity. Essentially, they make the massive physical equipment and software required globally. In their own words, they are on a mission to “electrify to thrive and decarbonize”.

To give you an idea of the massive scale of their business, here are some eye-catching stats from their latest annual report. In 2025, GE Vernova reported that it had:

- Generated $38 billion USD in revenue

- Installed approximately 59,000 wind turbines

- Installed approximately 7,000 gas turbines

- Helped generate approximately 25% of the world’s electricity (thanks to its technology).

Not bad for a company that only became independent in 2024, following the spin-off from General Electric.

GE Vernova’s business includes making tailor-made products and services used by numerous other companies (including some involved in oil and gas exploration and/or production*).

The recent war in Iran, and the subsequent surge in oil prices, has been another acute reminder of the need to transition more quickly away from fossil fuels.

For transition-essential companies like GE Vernova, this bodes well for their growth prospects and there is another fillip in the form of AI. The booming demand for electricity, in part driven by the rapid expansion of energy-hungry data centres that power AI software, has led the firm to project that about half of the total mix of energy supply will come from electricity by 2050 (up from approximately 20% today).

Running parallel with this industry transition are the company’s own sustainability credentials. It is currently targeting “carbon neutrality” in its facilities and operations by 2030.

*This accounts for less than 1% of their revenue annually (based on our data provider’s estimation). 1% is below our revenue threshold - to learn more about how these work with regard to fossil fuel activity, click here. In our view, GE Vernova’s primary focus on power generation, together with the limited extent of its involvement with companies in these sectors, supports its suitability as an investment in a transition-essential company.

Sustainability credibility

We like what we see from a sustainability perspective, specifically these three core objectives:

- To run fatality-free operations. (As you might expect, industrial-scale electricity supply and production can be dangerous work. Three fatalities were reported in 2024).

- To demonstrate progress on inclusive culture and equal employment opportunities for all employees.

- To embed and implement ethical decision-making principles into business decisions.

From our perspective, we see a company that has both ethical intent and an arguably ethical product.

The winds of change blow strong

If energy security and sustainability are the keys to a brighter global future, then GE Vernova is one of the leading firms in the space that we think merits investment.

Today, their financial performance stacks up well and their growth ambitions tally well with a broader transition towards cleaner energy production and supply.

With GE Vernova in our Global Responsibility Fund, we’ve added a touch more global diversification – thanks to their US heritage – and we’re further helping our members in the collective effort to shape a brighter, cleaner, and more sustainable future.
